A Wedding in Kernville
Last night, my coworker and I drove to Kernville for our vice president's wedding! It's a gorgeous little town about an hour away from us. There are antique shops, restaurants, inns and lodges, and bars right near the river. There are also plenty of outdoor activities, like tubing and rafting in the river, especially during these summer months.
The wedding didn't start until 5:30 p.m., so the sun was setting around the hills as we drove. We were pushing it on time and kept crossing our fingers we'd make it! And we did, with a few minutes to spare. We found a couple seats near our other coworkers and the ceremony began shortly after. It was one of the sweetest ceremonies I've ever witnessed. They wrote their own vows, the trees practically humming from the wind and their love for each other was very evident with every glance and touch. I definitely cried. Because weddings make me emotional like that.
We grabbed a table, and the sun was just beating on us, so we decided to go check out the beverages and mingle. We ran into our other work family members, and oohed and ahhed at what everyone was wearing. We snapped selfies and chatted with our friends, sharing stories of our crazy days leading up to the wedding, grabbed something to drink and sat back down.
We had dinner, which was a variety of comfort foods, including: mac n' cheese, corn bread, pork and salad. We were all so hungry, it didn't take long for us to finish. The DJ played some mellow music, like Norah Jones and others, which was very calming for the dinner chat and such.
After we ate, our group took a photo at the photo booth and wandered near the creek to take a closer look at nature. The area was covered in trees and was very "Into the Woods" in a storybook fairytale kind of way. It was one of those magical nights that makes you believe in love and that maybe that "I can't live without you, run through the airport, our life is a romantic comedy," kind of love.
After the toasts and speeches were made (where there were lots of laughs and tears), Veronica and I decided to head down the mountain, since it wasn't quite pitch black yet. As we drove, we talked about life and family and all that falls in between. She dropped me off at home, where I was able to spend some time with my family who are visiting from out-of-state.
That's all for now,
Shelby
