Ain't It Fun...Seeing Paramore Live
Friday night, one of my best friends spent the night. We had dinner, watched the first hour or so of "La La Land" and then turned in early for our road trip the next day.
The next morning, we drove out to her house, just on the outskirts of town, grabbed Starbucks and waited for her cousin to pick us up. Then, we were off on our next adventure to Mountain View, CA to see Paramore.
Most of the day was driving time, but those are some of my favorite moments. We rocked out to Paramore playlists in the car, chatted and made a stop at McDonald's for Happy Meals, because we're still kids at heart. Ha! Let's just say, we ate a lot of junk food along the way. Because calories don't count on birthdays or vacations, right?
Once we made it to the Mountain View area, we checked into our Air BnB. It was a nice area, shaded with trees and generally pretty quiet. I'd never stayed at one, so I was interested to see how it all worked. I loved it! I can't believe how easy and smooth it was. We found our little mother-in-law suite tucked in the back of the house and checked in. We had time to get ready for the concert - hair, makeup and the whole thing, while Marisel entertained us with ABBA songs. We also made time for selfies and a mini-photo shoot with Marisel (the true photographer of the group).
Uber picked us up and drop us off for the show so we wouldn't have to mess with parking and such. There was a line about several miles long, but it actually went pretty quick. We walked around the arena a bit, bought tshirts, then found our seats in the middle of the first act. Next up was Foster the People. I only know a couple of their songs, but they were fun and kept the energy alive. I definitely want to check out more of their music after hearing them live.
Hayley Williams is a force of nature. From the time she stepped on stage, she was dancing and singing and jumping around, but her voice never broke. She felt like a friend, talking with the audience. "For the next couple hours, we can forget about everything else. In 2018, that's quite an accomplishment," she said. The crowd laughed at the sentiment, and it's true. For those moments, we let the music take us away. I thought about my friends and I - How music brought us together and ultimately led us to that particular show with the others around us. Music has this way of speaking for us when we don't know what we're going through or don't have the words to make it better or change the situation.
My favorite moment of the night, as it usually is, is when the band slowed it down and sang the song from their latest album called "26." She asked if anyone in the crowd was 26 - it just so happens that I am. She mentioned that it's a really weird age and she went through some tough stuff around that time. I have to say I agree. It's been an emotional year to say the least. But, I know I'm just getting to the good stuff of life. I think we all teared up for that song.

Hold onto hope if you got it
Don't let it go for nobody
And they say that dreaming is free
But I wouldn't care what it cost me
Don't let it go for nobody
And they say that dreaming is free
But I wouldn't care what it cost me
I also had fun rocking out to "Ain't It Fun" too and letting it all go. We had a blast singing along to our favorite songs and forgetting about the things we walked in weighed down by.
After the concert, we were on a high. We walked about a mile or so, near the Google headquarters and took an Uber to In-N-Out. The line was ridiculous as usual, but we waited it out and got lucky with finding a table. We ate, then made our way back to the house. We were a little loopy; laughing about nothing and Marisel singing more ABBA songs. I'd had a splitting headache all day from the traveling, so I took more medicine and fell asleep.
Sunday, we slept in a little and got everything together to head home. We felt more refreshed and excited for the day. Concerts are a cure, man. We checked out of the place we were staying and drove into downtown for a delicious breakfast at a crepe café on a corner, just like you'd find in Paris.
We stopped for gas and said goodbye to our Mountain View to head back home.
We made a detour to Fresno to try Dutch Bros. Coffee, which Marisel is always telling us about. It really did live up to the hype. It was creamy and delicious and didn't have that aftertaste that coffee tends to at times. They also had a lot of other frosty drinks, lemonades and other specialties to try. I'll have to make another visit sometime.
The rest of the trip consisted of singing to Adele and planning other concerts we'd like to attend in the future. I had dinner with my parents, who were back from their cruise, then watched "Grey's Anatomy" and prepared for the work week.
I was sad to see this weekend come to an end, but it was so good for the soul. Find you some friends who are always up for an adventure, but most importantly are just there for you in the good and bad times. I'm ready to take on the rest of this week!
That's all for now,
Shelby
