A Weekend at Home
It has been rare this summer that I've actually spent much time in town.
But, the next four weekends are going to be busier, so it was good to stay home last weekend and not have any set plans.
Later that night, I met up with one of my good friends at Starbucks for a treat and a heart to heart. I can't stress having good girlfriends enough. Those who know your heart, but also allow you to have your moments and say what you need to say. It's good to remember you're never alone in this crazy world.
But, the next four weekends are going to be busier, so it was good to stay home last weekend and not have any set plans.
Friday
I actually had to work on Friday, so I did that until about 2 p.m. I came home and ate lunch, freshened up and then went to the movies with my parents to see "Mamma Mia 2" and it was great. Just the right amount of lightheartedness, fun and music galore. It's the perfect summer movie encapsulating love, relationships, mothers/daughters and even fathers/daughters. I love a feel good movie, walking away and feeling inspired by life and art.
Saturday:
Saturday, I got a bit of a later start. Then, went out for a drive near the river with my parents. It wasn't a long trip, but just enough to clear your mind and get out of town for a little while.
We went to Hobby Lobby so my mom could pick up a few things for a new project she wanted to work on. I also picked up a few scrapbooking items to document all of my trips and memories from this summer. For some reason, I was just wiped out. I could not stay awake. I started working on my photo album a little bit - taping pictures and writing notes along with the memories.
I was still pretty wiped out, so I ended up crashing on the couch for a few hours. The rest of the night was pretty uneventful.
Sunday:
Sunday morning I went to church for the first time in about a month and it was great. The sermon was about focused thinking and ultimately, the dreams and plans we have in our heart. Every time I go, I know that I needed to be there to hear the message.
My parents and I went to lunch and ran into a couple family friends. We talked with them for awhile, then ate on our own. The rest of the afternoon was simple - TV, doing some reading and writing. Pretty low-key.
I closed out the evening with a visit to the new movie theater in town, which also serves dinner while you watch. I had a hot dog and fries, and was pleasantly surprised that I wasn't that distracted during the movie with servers coming in and out. We saw The Incredibles 2. I'll be honest, I wasn't a huge fan of the first one and thought this one was better. It was also great to catch up with my friend, who's been gone for most of the summer.
I guess the moral of the story is that yes, traveling is great. Go, do and be young. But, it's also good to slow down and just BE with people. That's what life is really about.
Now, we are almost through this work week and I look forward to another great weekend ahead!
That's all for now,
Shelby
