Take me out to the ballgame
It feels like this weekend is kicking off a busy and fulfilling summer ahead. My parents and I decided to play hooky on the first Friday in May to go to a Dodger game and the drone show following the game. We’d gotten the tickets for my dad’s birthday because they played against the Atlanta Braves. He’s always so hard to shop for, so we opt for experiences these days. The Braves are his other team since he was born in Georgia.
Sure, the game wasn’t until later, but my dad doesn’t just have a typical job where he can just get off early. So we all just took the day off so we didn’t have to rush down there. We all had a lazy morning, taking it easy around the house before getting ready.
We were ready to go and left around 2 p.m., to make the drive down to Valencia. We had a late lunch/early dinner at Wood Ranch, one of our favorite spots. I got the Carolina BBQ sliders with the peanut coleslaw. You just can’t go wrong with it! And their garlic bread is to die for. You could just give us those and we’d be happy. We go there for a lot of special occasions, and I hadn’t been in awhile. So that was a nice treat to start off the weekend.
We were still a little early after that, so we went to Walmart and Five Below just to look around. I always find the coolest knick knacks at Five Below - journals, gadgets and the like. Then, we headed straight for the stadium.
We got in, got water and peanuts, then got settled in for the game. It’s always a great night at Dodger Stadium. I do my best thinking there in the Los Angeles air, watching the sunsets, the crowd, the game. The crowd was lively; doing the wave, tossing beach balls (and booing when they’d go over the rail). The Dodgers won and all was right with the world (even if my dad secretly goes for the Braves when they play against them).
From there, we fought the traffic to get out of Dodger Stadium and get on the freeway to go home. We stopped at our usual In-N-Out, got some food and back on the road we went. We got home around 1 a.m., and I was in bed and falling asleep around 2 a.m. Definitely worth the long night! I still genuinely love spending time with my parents more than just about anyone else. It's always a fun time with them.
Now, onto the next adventure….
