Happy birthday, Mom!

Over the weekend, we went to the beach to celebrate my mom’s 60th birthday! She isn’t one for parties, so it was just the three of us. Unfortunately, my fractured toe put a damper on things a bit. But, we made the most of the time we had over there.

We left around noon, only to discover that our tire light was on. So, we went to several tire shops before finding one who was able to get us in and out within the hour. And then we were on the road once more.

Our reservation for dinner was at 4 p.m. We got into town a little earlier, so we stopped at Wal-Mart to get a few necessities, and they usually have better items than we do. We went to a staple in Pismo, McClintock’s, which we hadn’t visited in some time. I went with the Salmon, which was delicious. You can’t go wrong, especially when the meal comes with onion rings and an ocean view. Even if it was foggy and harder to see, just knowing it was out there is what it’s all about. We took our time eating and enjoying the view and each other.

Afterwards, we made our way over to the outlets. Which completely wiped me out. I haven’t left the house at all, unless I’ve had to and only driving when necessary. So this was the most I’d done in weeks. It wasn’t too long, though, and I found some goodies at Five Below, because I’m a sucker for stationary goods and other workbook type things they sell. Mom mainly wanted to check out the purse stores, like Coach and Kate Spade. Kate Spade always has great deals. I found a green leather backpack (regularly $399) for about $94 with tax. Epic deal! I love it so much. We decided to go to the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory to get a sweet treat for the ride home. Mom and I split a Snicker’s Caramel Apple.

When we were done at the outlets, my toe was in a lot of pain. So I put it up on the seat in the car for a few minutes while mom and dad ran into one of the local grocery stores to look for bread.

We couldn’t come to the beach and not see the beach, at least, so we went over to the pier. Thankfully, for as busy as it was, we didn’t have much of a problem finding a parking spot…And they weren’t charging. Win win! I found a table at the end of the pier while mom and dad walked to the end. I had my book to keep me company and loved just taking in the view; the seagulls flying overhead, people hopping on their boards and letting waves take them away or perfectly content sitting on the sand.

We didn’t stay there too long because it was already 8 p.m. as we wrapped up. We didn’t stay overnight, so we still had to make the trek home. And that we did! Mom and I ate our caramel apple while dad snacked on his caramel turtles. We listened to The Blend on the way home and I started a new Kindle book and read on my phone. Surprisingly, it did not make me sick. We made it home at a reasonable time and I was grateful to be home. But, I love that we have the opportunities to go just about anywhere in California and back in a day.

Happy birthday, mom! Here’s to another great year!
