Road trip to Fresno
The week was filled with a couple earthquakes (and aftershocks), puppy snuggles and planning ahead at work. Rory didn't like the earthquakes. (or we freaked her out from our bug-eyed expressions of what the heck is happening)? Can't say I did either -- I even dropped to the floor in case I needed to duck under our coffee table.
On Friday, I decided to take a quick trip to Fresno to visit one of my friends and former director at work, since it's been a year since I've seen her. I slept in a bit, stopped at Starbucks (of course) and was on the road shortly after 9 a.m. I had my playlist set to the vibes of Noah Kahan, Kelsea Ballerini and other more folksy type as I passed the fields and agriculture around for the next two hours. I always love a good drive, just to think and daydream. It forces me to be away from my phone or doing something just to stay busy.
I met Esra at her apartment, then we went over to Annesso's Pizzeria. It's not your average pizzeria -- more modern, hip, and a variety of pizzas to choose from. I ended up getting the jalapeno and pepperoni pizza [it had tomato sauce, mozz, oregano and honey]. It was really good! I'd love to try a salad next time if I make it back there. Apparently they switch up their menu quite a bit, too, so you never really know if it's going to be the same next time you go. It was great spending more time catching up on the last year (relationships, work, health, all the things) since the last time we saw each other was at Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. we had a blast but it's not exactly the place to have a heart to heart, you know?
After, we went to Target, where we wandered for a bit and I bought new pjs. I love a good Target visit. Always fun to see if others have better things than our local ones, HA!
We decided to get some Coldstone ice cream on the way back to her apartment. I should have gotten a lid to put on the ice cream cup but didn't and while we were having a deep conversation, my ice cream was starting to drip everywhere. I had to keep licking the side and letting it go on my hand in order for it not to spill on the seatbelt or anything crazy. Phew, what a drive. LOL!
Esra turned on the Eras Tour on Disney+ for background ambiance and we talked over the next couple hours. It was so fun to be able to spend a day like this together since we didn't get to as much when we worked together. Around 3 p.m. or so, I decided I should get back on the road to let her rest for some plans she had earlier in the evening.
I got back on the road (carefully snapping photos of the neat landscapes along the way), listening to some Miley Cyrus, more Kelsea Ballerini and Carly Pearce. Good times! When I was just about home, I stopped at Bravo Farms, that is known for being one of the cool rest stops with nuts, fudge, ice cream and other goodies to wander through. I think they've redesigned since we last visited but it has a cool aesthetic. It was nice to get out and stretch, take a few photos along the side of the road for the vibes then head back into town.
I think I made it home just before 7 or so. It was a pretty chill night - Showered, put my new pj's on and had dinner. I felt very accomplished and glad I decided to just make the day trip happen.
Spend time with the people who matter in your life. You'll never regret those memories!
That's all for now,
Shelby
